Can You Differentiate Yourself with Pop Up Displays? Part II
December 2nd, 2009In my last blog post I told about my initial impressions of Pop Up Displays from a time before I was in the trade show industry, which made my observations a little more valid because they were formed before I became an industry insider. Let me explore with you my thinking then and especially how as it has evolved over time.
One of the things you learn in business is how important your brand is, and what lengths you must go to in order to protect it and make it known in the marketplace. That brand is what you’re trying to differentiate in the marketplace from all other competitors; either real or perceived. Now in the process of differentiating your product at a trade show, what would be the value of placing your brand in the middle of a sea of mediocrity? Maybe that’s too strong or harsh a judgment of what people do, but when you’re in the middle of a row and all the booths on your right and left and across the aisle, all have the same shape and ultimately all blend in with each other, isn’t that what you’ve ultimately done?
In the back of your mind I’m sure you want your product and brand to be unique, but showing off your brand with a pop up by residing in the trade show equivalent of a row house, isn’t exactly the smartest thing to do. Now I’m not going to take time here to list the many alternatives, but there are many.
One other pet gripe of mine must also be stated here which is how some brand managers decide what type of display they’re going to buy. Now above I made the point that the decision on how and where to display and promote your brand is a very important decision, but there are some people out there that when it comes to making that all important decision, make it on the basis of the size shipping case the display comes in, and in one decision that I witnessed, it came down to the size of his secretarys car trunk; because she was going to drive it to the convention center and she owned a YUGO!
Let me just say that there are many decisions on branding and promoting of one’s product that are made in a very dimly lit room, and without a lot of forethought, but when it comes to your product and the success it will achieve in the marketplace, don’t you think what you look like deserves a little more thought?

Trade Show Display Rentals: Rule #2 Manage the Variables
November 20th, 2009
Display Rentals-Islands
In my first post related to Display Rentals, I talked about the importance of renting a system, that when combined with the right graphic package, wouldn’t “look like a rental.” This piece of advise is still at the top of my list, but not far behind it is renting a system which allows you to economically manage the variables at trade shows. Here are perhaps the most important variables: Read the rest of this entry »

Display Rentals: Rule #3 Managing the Electrical
November 19th, 2009How trade show electrical has changed! Not just for display rentals but for all trade show booths. Once upon a time you could get a 500 watt outlet for $20-$30 and plug in your extension cords and be on your way. The only time you needed to pay for labor is if you needed to have the power wired into an electric motor or some other device. Then, as we all fondly remember the good old days in Chicago at McCormick place when the electricians had jurisdiction over screwing in our light bulbs? Well those really are the good old days now that we know what the present day looks like at most trade shows.
One day in the not too distant past, renting a 500 watt outlet for a bazillion dollars wasn’t enough; nooooooo, you needed to pay a labor charge for putting the plug in the back center of the booth where it was always been put. When that wasn’t enough sticker shock, you now had to buy a 500 watt outlet in each location where you needed power; none of this using 100 watts here, 300 over there, and another 50 up front. You now had to purchase a 500 watt outlet in each location; how convenient.
So what does that have to do with Display Rentals? Everything! First, you should take some time to rent a display where the power needs are well thought out. That includes using L.E.D. light throughout the booth. All told, they use about 1/20 the amount of power as halogens and run much cooler as well.
Second, if you have the ability to do so, order any product or equipment with long power cords so they can be extended from the location where they’re used in the booth to the main power supply. That will to some degree alleviate purchasing the power and labor for multiple 500 watt outlets.
Thirdly, bring your own cube taps and power strips so you won’t have to rent these items from the show electricians, but be sure to purchase the power strips that are rated for 15 amps.

The Pitfalls of Poor Quality Trade Show Display: A Case Study, Part I
October 25th, 2009Image, Inc. was a new video production company on the scene – a group of advertising agency defectors that pooled their resources to start a company that catered to delivering smaller businesses the high end video product they needed but with the personalized customer service that was often lacking from the larger sized vendors. Their initial customer base was derived largely from word of mouth – culled from their original client roster from their old company. But as the months went by, company management knew that it was time to step out of their comfort zone in an effort to win more business and, on a larger scale, introduce this fledgling company to their industry peers. With an upcoming industry trade show looming, the decision was made to look at prices for trade show booths and possibly make an appearance at the show as a participant.
Trade show booths at the upcoming show were relatively inexpensive in the larger scheme of things and the company pounced on the opportunity to have a presence in a show that would include advertising agencies, other production companies, and a host of marketing professionals that could certainly utilize their services. But when the time came to set up shop, the representatives from Image quickly realized that they were seriously outclassed in terms of trade show booths.
Other companies – many that had only half the of the services that Image offered and were largely ill-equipped to provide the hands-on, personalized service that Image advertised as one of their service benchmarks – were fully decked out with trade show displays that were visually stimulating and chock full of multi leveled media displays. For Image, a company that was supposedly on the cutting edge of video production services, their obvious lack of video components in their trade show booths sent a significant message to those they were trying to impress.
In the next post we will continue to explore the reasons that trade show displays are so vitally important to the overall success of a company.

The Pitfalls of Poor Quality Trade Show Displays: A Case Study, Part II
October 25th, 2009In the last post we discussed the experience of Image, Inc., a video production company that while just starting out, was interested in making their industry premier at an upcoming trade show. Having looked into trade show booths and made a decision to participate, however, the company came to the trade show woefully unprepared to match the trade show displays boasted by other companies. While Image was a vibrant, young organization with boundless creativity and talented employees, their trade show display properties did nothing to represent these qualities and their effort fell flat.
What is so detrimental in this regard is that trade shows are the events during which companies should really shine – especially if they are new on the scene. It’s been said that there are no second chances to make a first impression and nowhere is this more evident than in the trade show experience.
Had Image looked into a professionally created trade show exhibit they would have understood the cost to benefit ratio better. The importance of coming dressed to the nines in a trade show environment cannot be underscored enough; trade show booths are the outfits worn by companies – the exterior by which they are judged by peers and potential customers.
Ultimately, trade show displays are an investment in the company’s future – especially when you consider how many such events the company will participate in over the course of years to come. In fact, some companies choose to create multiple displays similar to what you find in the hybrid display line – different designs that speak to different audiences – so that they are covered for whatever the possibility or if the company is participating in multiple trade shows at the same time.
You can be sure that Image will come much better prepared to their next trade show – with trade show displays that speak to their skill, their talent, and their commitment to impressing their client.

Trade Show Exhibits for Start-Ups
September 25th, 2009Working for a start-up company requires an unusual commitment. For one, there is the necessity of doing things from the ground up so as to build a business that is self-sufficient and viable in the industry; this often requires employees wearing many hats at least in the beginning. There is also the commitment to working outside of the box in terms of earning potential and benefits; there may be a wait for consistent pay until the company is on its financial feet. Lastly, there is the commitment necessary from all team members to market the company to the best of their ability.
Part of this marketing is networking and one of the ways that businesses network is through their participation in trade shows. Through trade shows, companies of all sizes are able to get their word out, promote their services, and hopefully attract new business. But in order to do this most effectively, businesses must be sure they are promoting themselves to the best of their ability through trade show exhibits.
It’s no secret that every company that participates in a trade show has their pick of trade show exhibits. Through these trade show booths, companies compete for passerby. The amount of attention they are able to generate is most often related to the effort put into the design of trade show displays.
For start-up companies this is especially important. Their participation in a particular trade show may be the first time that the company is being presented to the business world at large, and to the industry specifically. So it behooves a company to make the most of the experience by coming to the show with all their marketing elements in place. Well-designed trade show displays can effectively promote a start-up company and give them the jump start they need to build a solid customer base.

Think Variety When Planning Trade Show Displays
September 22nd, 2009If your company is participating in an upcoming trade show, chances are that you have spent many an hour planning your trade show exhibits; specifically what you want to bring with you, how you want to arrange your display booths, the pieces that are important to display, and those elements that you feel will set you apart from your competition.
Make no mistake about it; a trade show is a competition. While it allows many businesses to present their products and services for presentation sake, it is still an opportunity – one that can be highly successful if approached correctly – for companies that drum up new business and perhaps even get the opportunity to speak to a potential new client that has been difficult to get on the phone.
Being represented at a trade show allows a company the opportunity to really sell themselves in a non-pressure atmosphere. After all, it may be competitive, but a trade show is also an exceedingly social experience so it is much more acceptable to just approach people and introduce yourself and your company.
When planning for your upcoming trade show, consider trade show displays that will really represent your company most appropriately. This does not mean choosing trade show exhibits that are popular or that you have seen work for other companies. This is your experience and your company; the trade show displays that you use should be highly personal and completely reflective of your company’s signature style.
To get the most in choosing your trade show displays, work with a professional company that offers a large variety of trade show exhibits and displays; that is committed to working within the very personal confines of what matters most to a company; and has experience and knowledge in not only this industry but in the marketing of companies in

Trade Show Exhibits for Virtual Companies, Part I
August 22nd, 2009Businesses sure have changed over the last decade even. While the computer, and more specifically – the Internet, were fledgling components of businesses in years’ past, today it is essentially the core of many businesses. We have come to depend upon the computer for everything from billing to communication; and this has afforded us a level of convenience that was previously unknown, as well as shrinking the world and allowing us access to vendors, clients, partners, and coworkers around the globe.
What this Internet explosion has also allowed us to do is create work environments that essentially exist online. Known as virtual companies, these businesses operate through their website and employ workers that work from home offices. This is a trend in business that has been beneficial from both employer and employee in reducing overhead and increasing flexibility respectively.
But just because a business does not exist in the traditional sense does not mean that it cannot be bolstered by some of the traditional methods of marketing. For most traditional bricks and mortar companies, their participation in one or several trade shows throughout the year helps them to stay viable in their industry and introduce their products and services to potential customers and clients. Trade show participation, in fact, is one of the more successful, albeit traditional, ways of marketing for any business; and the virtual business is no exception.
In fact, it may help virtual businesses to participate in shows throughout the year and have a physical presence in an industry related event. Through the use of comprehensive and well thought out exhibit displays, companies are able to promote themselves in a very different way and perhaps reach an audience they would be hard pressed to reach online, at least initially.
In the next post, we’ll talk about planning for superior trade show exhibits for virtual companies.

Trade Show Displays for Struggling Companies
August 22nd, 2009Times are tough everywhere right now and the business world seems to be getting hit the hardest. A struggling economy and reduced cash flow has forced many businesses to close their doors altogether and many of those that remain have had to make serious cutbacks to weather the storm. While it may seem counter intuitive to spend any additional money during this period of time, for some companies it may be just the thing to help them grow their business.
Those businesses that make the decision to participate in an upcoming trade show will often find the effort pays off in financial dividends. This is because the trade show experience affords companies the opportunity to get directly in front of prospective clients and customers. Those who tackle the trade show experience successfully will often find that they walk away with new business.
But how do you go about making trade show participation a successful experience? To start, you must make sure that your display stands are sophisticated, high quality, and completely reflective of what you have to offer as a company.
Working with professional designers is always the way to go when it comes to trade show displays. Again, many people may think this defeats the purpose of surviving a tough economy and that spending more money to participate in such an event will only serve to put them deeper in the hole. But consider this: trade show booths are your fifteen minutes of fame at a trade show; if you squander your fifteen minutes you’ll never have another chance of making a great first impression on those companies with which you wish to do business – business that will feed your bottom line.
Start off right with well designed trade show displays and you’re sure to have a successful experience. So seek out those professional companies that will work with you to create something spectacular and memorable.

Trade Show Exhibits Help Define a Company
August 22nd, 2009Have you ever come across a company – usually through an advertisement – and nothing that they say in any of their marketing gives you any clue – at least off the bat – about what they do and what products or services they provide? We live in such a fast and furious world of advertising that unless you are able to deliver your message – through words or visuals – within a few seconds, chances are that you have lost the opportunity to communicate with that audience.
Unfortunately those who are effected most from this situation probably don’t have a clue that it’s even happening to them!
Successful advertising professionals know that in order to promote a company well you have to deliver a concise message in a very short period of time; and make that message compelling enough to inspire the target audience to seek out more information.
This kind of process can be seen up close and personal – and in all its detail – in a trade show environment. This is where the inner workings of successful marketing play out and where the competition is clearly defined. So in order to rise above the rest and be noticed, companies must be sure that their message succinctly delivers a message that defines them as an organization. And well chosen exhibit displays can help.
Because companies use trade show booths as their headquarters during a trade show event, everything about those trade show booths must be designed to further the marketing of the company. Trade show exhibits that are designed and crafted through professional services are the best bet for any company that wants to promote their products and services in the most sophisticated, compelling, and comprehensive way possible.
Professional services will work with a client to design trade show displays that encapsulate the message of the business and make use of all the marketing mediums available to them; the purpose of which is to capture the attention, and ultimately the interest, of the trade show audience.

Do It Yourself Trade Show Displays, Part II
August 22nd, 2009In the last post we talked about the do-it-yourself movement and its effect on not only the average homeowner but also the average business that is trying to be mindful of their bottom line in this struggling economy. There are a great number of businesses that, in trying to save themselves money, only wind up costing themselves money in the end. And it pays to be mindful of what the company can bear as an organization in terms of bringing it in house and what is best left to the professionals.
We began to talk about the decision that many companies make to participate in a trade show; something that when done correctly is money well spent and can often lead to new business that will grow a company and broaden its client and customer base. But just as often, companies commit to trade show participation only to hold back in terms of the financial commitment it requires to really represent the company well and do all that is possible to drum up interest.
This is often because companies are put off by the amount of money required to participate in a trade show – the rental of trade show displays and so forth – and stop short of garnering professional assistance with their trade show displays. Instead, many companies insist that they can create something themselves and wind up falling far short in representing themselves in the most sophisticated way possible.
Consider for a moment that portable displays are your business card in a trade show environment; they are what will essentially brand you for trade show attendees. When trade show displays are created professionally and on-point they are a dramatic statement to those in attendance that this is a company that is worth getting to know. Conversely, when trade show displays are less than stellar, or worse, appear to be thrown together, this also sends a message that the company in question is, well, questionable.
Participating in a trade show is an investment in time and in money. By stopping short of representing your company to the best of your ability with well designed trade show displays you are putting that investment in jeopardy.

Do It Yourself Trade Show Displays, Part I
August 22nd, 2009The do it yourself movement has sparked many an individual to believe that they can do anything if only with the proper resources at their disposal. From home decorating to plumbing, landscaping, and even full on construction we are infused with new found self confidence and a desire to save money and still, ultimately, get exactly what it is that we want. The do-it-yourselfers can also be found on the business front as companies of all shapes and sizes embark upon projects that were once clearly defined as belonging to the professionals. Now, part time administrative assistants are also part time marketing representatives; management is a part of the sales time; and employees are wearing hats they didn’t know they owned.
There is a trade off to doing it yourself, however, and sometimes it only winds up costing you more money in the end. Ask any homeowner that tackled that electrical job to save themselves $5k only to spend double that amount fixing the mess they made. Individuals and businesses need to heed the warning of the do-it-yourselfers that have been there and done that; there is a false economy that is often present and it bears consideration.
Consider those companies that desire to participate in trade shows. This is a solid decision for any company large or small, as the trade show environment offers the opportunity for participants within the same industry or across industry lines to come together in the spirit of generating new business. Companies are able to market and promote their services, get their name out there, create a buzz around their brand, and get up close and personal with prospective clients and customers they may not otherwise have the opportunity to get in front of with their sales pitch.
But too many companies, in the face of the cost of trade show participation, choose to go it alone in creating their display boards; a decision that ultimately could wind up costing them money.

The Right Trade Show Booth Can Make a Difference
August 22nd, 2009Businesses need to make financial decisions every day. Those who are in charge of making such decisions must do so with an eye towards the overall company budget; the choices that they make can ultimately make or break the bottom line of a business. On close examination, however, businesses surely discover that there are some things that are not worth the price and others that are fundamental to the long term success of their business. These fundamentals move to the head of the pack of priorities; they are something in which a business can sink their teeth into and which are ultimately worth the investment.
This is normally what most companies think of trade shows. They may initially scoff at the idea of paying the money necessary to participate, along with the other elements that are required for participation. But what they will soon find is that this price is worth the hands-on opportunities that participants have to interact with potential new business and to showcase their company in a unique way that is outside the boundaries of traditional business.
Trade shows are worth it for most companies because it takes them out of their day to day business practices and allows them to solely focus on marketing their company’s brand. But in order to do this effectively – and protect the money they have invested in this event – companies need to understand that trade show booths do matter.
Trade show booths or a trade show banner are the marketing tools that a company uses during their trade show participation. There are essentially two schools of thought among companies. For those who have not yet participated in a trade show and are unconvinced of the power of trade show booths, they choose to be minimalistic in their preparation and display. What they undoubtedly find is this lack of effort has some very real consequences.
Other companies that understand the power of trade show booths protect their investment with professionally designed exhibit displays. Their payoff, of course, is impactful marketing and a lifeline to their target audience.

Trade Show Displays Today & Tomorrow, Part II
August 22nd, 2009The economy is troubling right now; and as we talked about in the last post, businesses are being held more accountable than ever in validating their expenses. Those things that they spend money on – those purchases that they make – must be beneficial in the larger scheme of things; not just serve the immediate needs of the business.
Trade shows are often those events that can still manage to pass fiscal consideration for companies that are experiencing an economic slowdown and have to determine where to cut corners. This is simply for the reason that trade shows – when participation is with the full commitment of the business – is able to return on a company’s investment and grow their customer base.
Committed participation, in this case, refers to the use of high-end, professionally designed trade show displays. Portable displays are the method by which companies are able to garner the attention of those who pass by their trade show booths; they are the first visual connection that potential new clients will make with a company and they are absolutely crucial to the success of a company within a trade show environment.
Economically speaking, today’s trade show displays can easily be a part of tomorrow’s trade show experience. In other words, those companies making a commitment to their trade show experience by purchasing professional trade show displays; from full height booth or table top displays, are making an investment that will last them many years to come. In fact, smaller companies can easily purchase display stands that suit their scale and budget and then add on to the displays in years to come as the company’s needs and budget change.
If you consider a company’s trade show displays as a foundation on which to grow a company’s trade show participation, it is easy to validate the expense. And when you consider the attention that well-done trade show displays will garner, the investment makes even more sense.

Trade Show Displays Today & Tomorrow, Part I
August 22nd, 2009The decisions made by today’s businesses must be made with the bigger picture in mind. In this current economic crisis it is vastly important that elements that are purchased by businesses are able to serve dual functions so that the purchase is deemed cost effective and will help a company to grow its business rather than be a one-time only payout of money. After all, company principals have much to do in the way of explaining their expenditures these days; they have to ensure that their expenses pass the test of budget minded financial advisers.
Those companies that participate in a trade show or two throughout the year will surely attest to the number of expenses associated with such an activity. But in most cases businesses chalk up these expenses to the “you have to spend money to make money” philosophy. And in the case of a trade show it is essentially true. Most businesses that spend the money to be a part of a trade show realize the benefits on the other end; this type of participation allows them to spread the word about their company, get in front of potential new customers, and ultimately grow their business. In fact, in terms of return on investment, trade shows participation delivers.
But it is important to note that this delivery only comes to those companies that approach the trade show experience with the proper commitment. And a part of this commitment is coming to the event with professionally designed trade show displays that reflect well upon the company and are able to help them achieve their goal of getting noticed.
Trade show displays may seem like an expenditure that can go to the wayside – especially in this economy. But companies that participate in a trade show and do not fully commit with the use of high-end display booths or banner stands are only doing their company a disservice and seriously minimizing their chances of getting noticed.
In the next post, we’ll talk about the ways in which trade show displays can deliver year after year.

Planning For Your Trade Show Booth, Part II
August 22nd, 2009In the last post we started to talk about the importance of businesses putting comprehensive plans in place in order to go after their goals effectively and ultimately wind up successful. Everything from the clients that they want to go after and win to the types of vendors that they work with and the prices that they pay must be planned for down to the last detail in order for a business to be successful.
As discussed, participation in trade shows is another thing that businesses must plan for well ahead of the game if they hope to be successful during the event. There are many things that go into making a successful trade show experience including the most comprehensive use of the Xpressions trade show booths and the types of trade show displays that will get them the most attention and promote their brand most appropriately.
Some of the things that must be planned for when it comes to trade show participation include:
* Planning for space. The rental of trade show booths is dependent on the space that a business requires and the location they wish to fill during the event. And prices vary according to these factors. It is therefore important to choose wisely when making these decisions.
* The elements that must be used within the normal table top trade show display. It is important to plan for what will inhabit your trade show booths and what you will need within the booth in order to accommodate the elements in the booth – including electricity, furniture, lighting, and so forth.
* Design of trade show displays. The use of trade show displays within trade show booths will help promote a business most effectively; it is important to work with professionals to plan for the type of trade show displays that will serve your company best.

Protect Your Exhibit Investment, Part I
August 22nd, 2009The economy is such that businesses and individuals alike are struggling in the workplace and on the home front – all looking for ways to reach their goals with considerably less fiscal leeway. For businesses this means that any expenditure that they make must be justified by a clear return on investment. After all, there is far less disposable money available today than there were just a few short years ago. While the philosophy that you must spend money in order to make money still holds true, there is far less money with which to do it.
This kind of economy makes for less participation in a variety of business related events including participation in trade shows – the quintessential business showcase. But the fact remains that – even in this economy – trade show marketing is still effective. They represent a venue where businesses can promote their products and services so as to raise their visibility among their industry peers as well as generate new business among prospective clients and customers.
And the fact also remains that trade show participation costs money. The rental of trade show booths – and all the accoutrement that entails – costs money; but businesses put that money out time and time again because they recognize how much business can be brought in through successful trade show participation. This kind of business event participation can put businesses in front of those prospective clients that they may not have the opportunity to speak with ordinarily. And this kind of face to face contact is priceless.
While this participation is priceless in any economy it is much more important in a tough economy. Company principles need to be able to justify their participation in a trade show that has cost them such a substantial chunk of money. And the way in which they justify this participation is by bringing in business.
In the next post, we’ll talk about how effective trade show displays can help companies bring in business and subsequently protect their investment in the trade show experience.

Trade Show Displays for a One-Man Show
August 22nd, 2009The world of business has changed so significantly that we are no longer facing a traditional corporate environment. Sure, there are some businesses that operate in a traditional sense; out of a physical structure with employees that carry out their specific tasks with which they are charged. But the Internet has also provided for a whole new world of business; opening up the possibilities for different ways to work. Subsequently, there are a great number of people that work from their home, through the Internet.
This does not mean in any way, however, that this kind of operation differs from traditional business in terms of growing business. Even an online operation needs to look for ways in which to reach out to potential new customers and expand their client base in an effort to increase their profits.
While trade shows may be thought of as events that serve traditional businesses throughout a number of industries – and they do – they can also well serve those companies that operate online; even those businesses that are essentially compromised of one person and their computer.
In fact trade shows can be even more helpful for these small business operations as they allow them to get out every now and then a put a face to their name. But participation in trade shows warrants careful planning. It is incredibly important that these small business operations pay careful mind to the display stands that they use in coming to such events.
Carefully crafted, professionally designed trade show displays allow companies that are participating in such events the opportunity to put their best foot forward in terms of branding their products and services. This is especially important for small businesses that may not have the physical location that their larger counterparts have. With trade show exhibits that are thoughtful, creative, and impactful, small online companies – even one man deep – can have success at a trade show.

Planning for Your Trade Show Booth, Part I
August 22nd, 2009The best of businesses know that nothing is executable without a solid plan in place. Planning is what allows a business to set their sights on the goals at hand, and map out the most comprehensive way to reach those goals. Planning helps businesses ensure that there is money and staff on hand to help these goals be realized. And planning will help businesses see in black and white the things that could possibly go wrong so that they can avoid those pitfalls.
One of the things that must be planned for over the course of a year is a business’s participation in one or several trade shows. Gathering together with industry peers in a trade show environment allows businesses to market their brand and put themselves in proximity to possible future clients. Participation in trade shows can be enormously successful for businesses; there’s no doubt about it. But without comprehensive planning prior to trade show participation, businesses run the risk of a common mistake made by trade show newbies – those businesses that just show up and expect the trade show to work its magic.
The fact is that simply being at trade shows does not automatically mean success. For participation to be successful, businesses that participate in trade shows need to plan for this event months in advance including what their trade show booths will look like and what trade show displays they will use to promote their company while there.
Working with a professional design company months ahead of time to create personalized and comprehensive trade show displays is an essential part of the planning process for any business. Trade show booths that are given thoughtful consideration prior to an event will be the most beneficial for companies that choose to participate in trade shows.
In the next post…how to plan effectively for participation in your next trade show.

Protect Your Exhibit Investment, Part II
August 22nd, 2009In the last post, we talked about the fact that this economy has called upon businesses to justify their expenditures more comprehensively. Money spent on previously accepted event participation may be inspected more closely in this kind of economy. Trade show participation, for example, has historically been something that businesses spend allotted money on because it traditionally achieves a significant return on investment.
But companies that want to continue to spend funds on trade show participation must do so with the knowledge that their return on investment will be considered closely. Trade show participation is more than just another business event; in this day and age, it is an investment in the growth of a company.
In order to protect this investment it is necessary to make sure that participation in trade shows is as effective as possible. To this end, the creation of high-end trade show displays will represent a company in the best possible way and help to attract attention among industry peers and prospective clients and customers. Consider that the trade show environment is competitive; many businesses vie for the attention of potential new business from among trade show attendees that walk around the show. Like with any type of advertising, marketing a company within a trade show environment must be powerful and concise. Companies have only minutes to inspire potential new customers and clients to approach their trade show booths; trade show displays are the vehicles through which this advertising is conducted.
In order to best protect a company’s investment in trade show participation, it is important to work with professional designers who can help a company create the most effective trade show displays for the message they want to impart. With effective trade show displays in their corner, companies have the opportunity to make the most of their trade show experience and increase their return on investment.

Lightweight Hybrid Displays-See Who’s Getting It Right!
August 22nd, 2009There aren’t many aspects of business that get less complicated over time; but thanks to Moore’s Law, we just keep getting more powerful laptops or Blackberry’s to manage the myriad of complexities of life. Those of us who are constantly going to, preparing for, or getting back from trade shows know that there has to be a break out there somewhere to make our passion for “marketing to the masses” somehow worth it. Well, there just might be a flicker of light at the end of the tunnel.
The steady flowing and ever growing lineup of innovative new displays from Classic Exhibits is filling an obvious void that not only has been missed, but in fact has been totally overlooked for a long time. These also have some of the best packaging in the industry.
For the past 10 years it seems that typical exhibit displays have been getting bigger, bulkier, and generally just more complicated. Manufacturers just couldn’t get it through their heads that us guys that set these up, also suffer from ADD or ADHD, and don’t always get our afternoon fix of Adderall down in time to do us much good during set up. Then we open the shipping case to find there are 67 connections that we need to lock together with 3 different sizes of Allen wrenches; none of which I have a backup for on my Leatherman Tool.
What Classic has done in the past two to three years is create several lightweight exhibit displays called Magellan and Perfect 10, which are not only systems that for the most part are packaged with the components partially connected in shipping, but also with most connecting points that tighten together with the twist of a knob; not an Allen wrench. Gone are the 4” square pieces of extruded aluminum that added nothing but sheer weight to the booth. Secondly, you’ll never need a ladder because the frames can be assembled by laying them flat on their face where you can easily see what you’re doing, make all the connections, and connect the dye sub tension fabric graphics easily with velcro. All this makes the frame extremely rigid before you tilt it upright.
Oh yes, one additional bonus is that the dye sublimation graphics that fit the Perfect 10 and Magellan frames are much less expensive to purchase than the pop up photo mural panels we’ve been buying for 20 years, and the look and feel of this new generation of trade show exhibits certainly differentiates your booth from your competitors on the show floor far better than a pop up displays ever could.

Trade Show Exhibits for Virtual Companies, Part II
August 20th, 2009In the last post we talked about how business has changed so significantly because of the Internet; how there are many modern businesses that exist solely online. Virtual companies face their own marketing challenges as they are trying to attract potential customers and clients to a web site rather than a traditional brick and mortar business.
But there are some traditional marketing avenues that can be just as successful for a virtual company as a brick and mortar company – including a trade show event. During trade shows, companies occupy display booths and promote their brand, their products, and their services in order to generate buzz and perhaps attract new business. Trade shows are held throughout the year in a variety of different industries and can be enormously successful for companies large and small.
What the trade show environment gives to the virtual company is the ability to have a physical presence, at least in the short term. As pervasive as the Internet is in our daily business operations, there are still those potential clients that are much more comfortable talking with a company representative face to face, reading hard copy literature, and seeing a physical manifestation of the vendor in question; even if they know that their day-to-day operations happen online.
To this end, virtual companies that participate in trade shows should be sure to take their trade show displays quite seriously indeed. You don’t have a physical office to decorate and outfit; make your trade show booths your temporary “office” space and go to town. Working with professional designers of trade show exhibits can be a step in the right direction as they will help you define your message, choose your marketing medium, and erect effective and attractive trade show displays.
Fully stock your trade show booths with literature and even multimedia takeaways (DVDs) about your company that people can hold in their hand. By taking these steps potential customers will know that just because your company is virtual doesn’t mean it’s not viable.

Trade Show Displays Introduce New Companies, Part II
January 12th, 2009In the last post we discussed how display booths are especially important for new companies that are just introducing themselves at their first trade show experience. We spoke about how important it was for a company to truly brand itself during such events and that trade show displays allowed them to do just that by coming out of the gate with a strong message and visual support. Strong trade show displays present the “face” of a new company, branding it so that attendees at future trade shows will immediately recognize the business; as well as attracting the attention of attendees that will get a clear message of what the company does and what it offers.
Aside from these important items, some of the other benefits of a new company coming to a trade show with an impressive trade show exhibit include:
* Offering motivation. Ultimately the goal of trade show attendance is to spark a conversation with potential customers. But before we can begin the work of converting interested people to customers we need to inspire them to approach us first. Trade show displays with impact are mean to attract the attention of passerby and inspire them to approach the booth and have a conversation.
* Public relations. Any successful company knows how important perception is in the overall scheme of things. Good public relations is about aligning your company with a certain perception so that when people hear your name they automatically have a positive thought based on something that they have seen or heard. A strong presence at a trade show with high-end Lambda graphics that look crisp, professional, and sophisticated can ultimately be great PR for any company.
* Generate a buzz. A new company only has one shot at being the “new guy on the block.” Take advantage of this position by starting strong with a high quality trade show display that will ultimately generate good word of mouth. People will come to see what all the fuss is about.

To Sell Your Product, You Must First Sell Yourself
December 2nd, 2008As a trade show exhibitor, you must know the importance by now of making a first and lasting impression upon customers in order to become successful. Your new trade show displays, or banner stands should not be the only thing that grabs the attention of attendees strolling the exhibit. A trade show is a quick, speedy, non-stop environment, which means you must come prepared to sell and project the positive image of your company’s products and services at all times. The first moments of every exchange with an attendee, are the most crucial, because they make a lasting impression on what they think of not only you and the rest of your exhibiting staff, but also of your company, and the products and services that you are providing.
In order to make the deal a successful one, you must build the relationship with the consumer. This will involve putting yourself out their in a way that they may have not received from your competitors. You must make sure that the personality of yourself and the rest of the exhibiting staff is jumping out of the show display, and right into the lap of the attendee passing by. You must create an opportunity to first sell yourself, and then sell your product. If people cannot buy you as a person, or your company as an image, how are they going to buy your product? The answer is simple, sell yourself and your product in order to become a successful exhibitor.

Find Your Target Market
November 18th, 2008When it is time to start thinking about target marketing, it is important to remember your current customer base. When launching a new advertising campaign it is crucial to acknowledge the fact that, not everyone you have as customers are going to be interested in the new line of Eco-1st Bamboo Banner Stands or services. If you can figure out which niche part of your community will be interested, then you will save time and money on more productive things, which is always good for business.
If you are preparing for an upcoming trade show event, it is important to include all of your customers in the mail outs and announcements, but maybe spend a little extra time on those particular customers that would really enjoy seeing a new line of products being launched or services being introduced, etc. If you have a specific group of customers that must see your products in one of your new portable displays, then just make sure to let those clients be the main priority in your target market advertising.
It can never hurt to work hard promoting your services and products. But the idea of losing energy and precious money on giving information to a particular group of people that may not even respond is a frustrating concept. That is why you should take the time to find your target market, and spend your time and money convincing them that this is the product for them.

How to Advertise Effectively
November 18th, 2008The key to successful trade show marketing is to be able to understand your customers’ needs and to develop a plan that incorporates all of those needs effectively. In the world of trade shows, the right exhibit design is a very crucial part of the whole process, and can be the deciding factor for success. If you would like to see your business become more successful, then you should begin to work on the organic aspect of growth, because that will last the longest. There are many ways in which to focus on organic growth and here are a few examples: acquiring more customers will help increase the revenue of the company, running a new campaign which encourages your current customer base to buy more products. You can also run a campaign, which advertises the more expensive services or products that can help make you more money, or also get them to sign a longer deal or contract with your company to ensure that they will be around longer.
The most profitable one to begin with would probably be the first one, which is to acquire more customers and expand your current customer base. If this were a marketing plan for a trade show, you would now begin to design a plan that would eventually bring the most traffic to your booth. Begin using advertising and marketing to your greatest benefit, so that every moment and every dollar is being used to its highest potential. That is how you will become successful by using every opportunity to its fullest. You should begin spending time doing research to create a marketing plan so that you know what each step is going to be. The more prepared you are, the more successful you will be. In order to acquire new customers you should steer your product development in a direction that reaches out to new customers that may not have used your products or services before. Finally, develop a message that reaches and connects with the masses; because if there is a common ground and common point of relation for everyone, it will be accessible to anyone who shows interest. The larger your target market is, the more customers you will have the opportunity of acquiring.

October 27th, 2008The majority of small business owners have a limited budget that they are able to use for marketing each year. In order to prepare for your next trade show, marketing knowledge is a very crucial piece to the puzzle. Due to the limited budget it is smart to spend time and energy creating a well-rounded marketing and advertising program that is a combination of marketing and also sales and activities. The sales activities combination will not decrease your advertising budget, but it will add value of getting to spend time interacting with your prospective clients, which can potentially lead to new customers and increased business. This interaction will help your company immensely.
It sometimes seems unfair that comparatively, big businesses can throw around a lot more money without as much of the stresses as small businesses when it comes to advertising, etc. Even though small businesses have a limited budget for spending, does not necessarily mean that you cannot compete with the big boys. There are many ways that you can gear up for your next big trade show event by creating a cost-effective plan of attack for advertising that will bring everyone under the sun to come visit your new booth and see the new Trade Show Displays system. Call your vendors and ask them to help you in a little give and take where you participate in co-op advertising. You can also spend a little extra time mailing out referrals and buying incentives with your current customer base. There are numerous ways for your company to re-invent your advertising plan without breaking the bank. Remember to never give up and to always be willing to create new and exciting ways to advertise whether you are a big or small company.

Helpful Hints that Pay-Off at Trade Shows
October 10th, 2008It is important to look at each trade show event as an experience to not only sell your products and services to the masses, but to also introduce yourself to the general public and make a strong name for the reputation of your company. There are a few easy things that you can do before, during, and after the show to make sure that you are getting the best pay off for your hard work.
It is always a good idea to make up a list of prospects to call before the show to make sure that they come to your booth: one of the new pop up displays would be nice for openers. When you phone them, you can discuss the upcoming event to get them excited and prepared to see whatever your company is featuring at this year’s show. This is also a good time to set up an appointment for them to actually meet you at your booth to discuss business; sometimes with a set appointment time, you are more likely to get them to your booth to do business. It is also important to make sure that your staff is trained and prepared for the upcoming event with all the current knowledge on any new products or services being featured in that particular event. With a trained and prepared staff, you will see much more success at your next trade show.
It is also a good idea to get as much information as possible from each person that visits your booth so that you can follow up with them in an organized manner, in order to get the greatest return. If you make it a priority to remember specific things about each prospect and follow up with them in writing about those observations, they will feel more appreciated and the likelihood of them doing business with you is a better possibility.

It is not only easy to set up, but also allows you to communicate your message of advertising in height, depth, and width, which can make quite the statement at any event you attend.
The most commonly used trade show displays have always been two dimensional, but the Xpressions has changed the way the industry looks at display booths or banner stands all together. Preparing the Media Kit
September 23rd, 2008Preparing your media kit is an important factor in the key to a successful and smooth event. In addition to the media lease, your kit should also have included facts and statistics, sales sheets, samples of recent published stories, product brochures, background information about your organization, a sample of the product, photographs, and also any additional details that the media would need in order to properly tell the story and share the image of your organization and their story. After this is all assembled, you should place the media kit in entirety into a glossy, clean, presentation folder or any other attractive, eye-catching, packaging that will make it easy and convenient for the media to carry around with them, and back to the office. If it is packaged in an interesting, bold way it will help to catch the attention of the reader, and create a positive, memorable first impression.
Many larger shows and events will have a media room within the venue where the press and media gather together. If this is occurring at a trade show you are attending, just ask if your media kit could be displayed there for higher viewing traffic. To find out if this is an option, you can check with the event show manager for details. Also remember that at least a few copies of your media kits should be held back in your trade show booths in order to have available if any media representatives on the show floor decide to visit your booth. You last key to media kit success is to remember to follow up with your recent media contacts with periodic phone calls, or email reminders.

The Importance of Image Consistency
September 22nd, 2008In the world of exhibiting, you only have a few seconds to make a first impression. Often times the first impression decides what prospects think about your entire organization, and once that impression is made, it is extremely hard to get anyone to think otherwise. That is why creating a consistent image throughout with your exhibits and/or retractable banner products, as a whole is crucial to making the experience worthwhile for every potential customer that stops by your trade show display.
Creating image consistency is such an important part of the overall process and should not be taken lightly. It is imperative to begin creating an image from the very beginning, and trying to stay true to it with every detail. In order to create consistency, everything must support the message of the other. This can be done by making sure that the trade show booth is the same color as the literature, and the banner stands, lighting, and flooring are enhancing the overall experience of the exhibit. The booth personnel should also be dressed in attire that accents and supports the overall look and theme of the exhibit.
In general, every message that is being projected to potential customers should support one another. This will keep a concise and clear picture in the attendee’s mind of what you as an organization stand for. Remember this when planning out the details of your next big event. If you can capture a prospect at the moment a first impression is made, and affect them positively with a consistent message of your company, than proving to them you are a genuine and organized group will not be as difficult.

Time Management Practices
September 21st, 2008One of the keys to an effective booth presentation is to use your time wisely, while also meeting all of your event objectives within that time frame. Trade shows are a great place to capture the interest of a potential customer, but it is not necessarily the best place for a long, detailed discussion. An in depth conversation is better left for a follow-up meeting where there are no distractions or time restraints. You are much more likely to answer all of their questions and explain all of the details of the products and company.
The pace of trade shows is very quick and fluid; everyone is always on the move and racing the clock to visit all of the booths that spark their interest. If your booth presentation inhibits attendees from being able to move quickly throughout the exhibits, then you may not get as much foot traffic through your booth.
Because time is so precious, your booth presentation should only be long enough to meet all of the objectives and to generally inform the public about your company or organization, and why they should choose you. You want to deliver a great presentation that leaves the attendee wanting more. Work hard to develop an exciting presentation that will work with your exhibitor’s time restraints. Trying to keep your presentation under 10 minutes will help narrow down the information, and force you to choose what is most important. Remember to only include the key elements, and leave them wanting more in a follow-up visit.

Maintaining Focus with Booth Presentations
September 18th, 2008When planning for your next trade show event, your company must make sure to take the time to sit down together as a team and decide what the goals and expectations for this particular event are. As we have discussed in past articles, it is important to lay out all the objectives of the company and what the purpose of entering into each event is. When your company decides to sign up for a trade show event, it is a huge commitment. It is a commitment of your organization’s time, energy, and also money. If you as a team are willing to give all of this up, you must be dedicated and determined to get the most out of the experience.
Setting up clear and accurate objectives will help your exhibiting staff stay focused through out every step of the event. One of the most important parts of the whole trade show experience is the booth presentation. This is an opportunity to wow all your potential customers and to show these prospects that you are prepared and organized which will then be a reflection of your company and products as a whole. Whether this is your own trade show exhibit or one of many display rentals, the first impression is very important. Being organized as focused as a booth staff will enable you to be successful as well. This focus and determination will dictate the content of the booth presentation. If all of your information is scattered and unorganized, then the presentation will seem forced and the content will suffer. In return, the prospects will be bored and unimpressed. Exhibitors must be flexible and motivated to make the experience fun for everyone involved. As long as the proper preparation is done, you will have a focused booth staff that is a great contribution to your team overall.

3 Easy Steps to Effective Exhibiting
September 15th, 2008After you have been informed about the importance of a pre-show briefing and what it can potentially do for your business, and also have learned what employees will best benefit from the briefing, and what some of the details to include in your briefing are, you should now be ready to learn what the most important parts of a pre-show briefing are. These steps will help you and your booth staff see the whole picture and understand what the foundational goals of your display will be for the trade show event you are about to participate in.
First you must develop approach questions for your booth staff to have prepared when it comes time to meet and greet with the attendees. Develop questions for different booth scenarios such as, questions for when a prospect approaches the booth on their own, questions to ask while a demonstration or sampling is going on within the booth, and then questions for no particular scenario at all. This will help everyone feel prepared for anything and everything that the event brings their way. Confidence is key when manning a successful trade show exhibit.

Things to Remember in Your Pre-Show Briefing
September 14th, 2008When deciding what to include in your pre-show briefing, it is important to look at all the important keys to success, and then consolidate them into a clear and concise list that will help you. In this article I am going to break down a few easy elements to add to your briefing to ensure success and confidence in your booth staff.
The first thing to include is a detailed description of the particular trade show event. This will include familiarizing your staff with the show amenities, layout, timing, location, etc. This may seem minuscule to you, but to the untrained eye, shows can be so overwhelming and difficult to comfortably maneuver without this necessary rundown of the lay of the land. Remember to be patient and include this overview in your briefing to make sure you create a strong foundation for your staff. Next you want to introduce your exhibiting objectives to your staff. They need to know their purpose and what they are capable of doing so that they feel included and like an integral part of the whole exhibit experience overall. It doesn’t matter if you have table top displays or an island booth; it’s still important. Allowing your staff to feel important will motivate them to put in more effort for the benefit of the company as a whole.
It is also important to include a booth overview in your briefing. This will include describing your tradeshow booth features, details on how to keep the look of the display polished and put together at all times, as well as details about in-booth demonstrations, promotional giveaways, etc. It is helpful for them to remember why and how things work, to help them run the booth to the best of their ability. The schedule of the booth staff is also important. Each staffer needs to know when and where they are supposed to be at all times. Lastly, you need to understand each individual staffers strengths and weaknesses, so that you can appropriately place them in the right position behind the booth.
Make sure to take your time and clearly explain all of these steps so that the staff feels comfortable going into the event, and you make sure to get the most out of every opportunity to present your organization in a positive light, and make the most return.

Who Benefits From Pre-Show Briefings?
September 12th, 2008Once you have made the decision as a company that pre-show briefing is something you want to invest in, it is important to decide how you would like to actually attack the issue. Although research has shown that formal training of your staff has so much more of a positive impact on your overall results than informal training does. Even though this may be the case, it is always important to remember that training will obviously help the staff learn to do the job right, but it cannot necessarily change the personality of an employee from wallflower to top seller.
It is imperative that you select a staff full of people who have the aptitude for the manning the booth. This means that they are familiar and comfortable with exhibit etiquette, and also passionate about it. They may not necessarily be passionate about going to a trade show in general, but as long as they have a passion for the company and the products being sold, they are more likely to make an impact on the attendees. A customer can tell when someone is selling just to sell; but when you have a staff that consists of people who truly love what are they doing and are passionate about helping people find the right products it makes a difference. When you have an experienced staff running your trade show exhibits, they will get a much more positive reaction from the guests.
It is important to take your time when picking your booth staff, because they are the ambassadors for your organization, the voice for your company, and if they are not passionate about what they are doing, it will not benefit you to have them working for you. Once you find the right fit for your company in terms of staffing, then you must begin to train them and brief them for the upcoming events. That information will come in the next article.

The Importance of Pre-Show Briefing
September 11th, 2008Some ask the question of relevancy when it comes to the idea of trade show briefings. Well, according to the Centre for Exhibition Industry Research, there is a 68% increase in converting visitors to your booth into qualified leads when your company and organization take the time to train the staff properly for each trade show, so that everyone is keyed into the important factors of a good presentation.
It is important to remember that planning a pre-show briefing session with all of your trade show staff is not a simple task. You must plan ahead and make sure to set aside enough time to get it done right. If you do not have enough time to conduct a thorough efficient briefing, then there is no point in doing one at all. You need enough time to go through all of the steps in a detailed manner so that everyone understands and is able to follow directions accordingly. The idea of seeing a possible 68% increase in all potential leads that visit your booth, should be enough to make a pre-show briefing a top priority.
The pre-show briefing can be taught by someone in your company that a veteran of trade shows, and is aware of all the ins and outs of the organization to ensure that every topic is covered appropriately, or it can be done by a hired staff or consultant that comes to the company and holds a session for your booth staff and employees. Either way, it is imperative that enough time is set aside before the actual event to get this done. Booth staff plays such an important role of the success of your trade show event; it is imperative that they are trained properly and prepared for whatever the event may bring their way.

Public Relations
September 8th, 2008Public relations is a great way to inform people of your presence at a particular event; the larger the trade show, the more important it is to make your company known. Public relations can stimulate the potential customer’s awareness of, and demand for your company’s products and services; and is also one of the more economically savvy ways for your company and organization to efficiently reach mass audiences.
The media can help you transport information quickly and effectively through different information channels to help the traffic flow and productivity at your trade show booth. This media includes trade show magazines, television, electronic media, radio, and even consumer newspapers. These media outlets will inform the potential customers of interesting and new services and products that should not be overlooked at this year’s big event. It is a great way to ensure you will be remembered, while also validating that you are an important relevant part of the event overall. The media will also notify the trade show attendees of last-minute up-to-date news and about the event.
It is wise to pay attention to the public relations aspect of trade shows. This tool, if used effectively can help your potential customers to get to know you, before they even visit your display stands. Remember to choose your media outlets wisely, and invest in those that you think are the best suited to create and sustain a positive image for your organization while also promoting your services and products to the masses.

Pre-Show Promoting: Invitations
September 7th, 2008One of the most effective pre- trade show promotional ideas is to send out formal invitations to welcome everyone to your tradeshow display to check out any new items or services that you are offering. This will make people feel appreciated and noticed, if you make everyone feel like they are important to you, then they will be much more likely to take the time to stop by your trade show booth and see what you have to offer.
There are a few tips that will help you send out the invitation that will wow everyone and help you get the best return on your investment. Make sure that before you send out the formal invitations, that you single out the target group that will most likely be interested in your services. Look at all the profiles of the attendees and decide which ones fit the objectives of your company the best. This will save you time and money because it will narrow your target audience and give you a more focused approach for your marketing plan. Another important tip is to spend time on the invitations so that they will be remembered. The more creative the design is, the more they will stick out in the minds of the customer; if they like them, it will set a positive mood for them when they stop by the display booth. You will also want to make sure to follow-up after the invitation is sent. Although people appreciate the invitation, it does not necessarily mean that they will remember. Send a follow-up e-mail two to three days before the show, to make sure they acknowledge your efforts, and see that you are interested in them and were willing to take the time to follow-up. Pre-show promotions are a big part of the event overall. Do not forget to begin your advertising before the event, to continue it during the event, and to follow-up after the event to make sure that no one forgets who you are.

Creating Booth Atmosphere
September 6th, 2008Before you get to ahead of yourself trying to design a functional booth for your next show that will save you money and get the job done all in one, it is important to remember that creating an effective trade show booth that helps aid your organization in meeting its goals and advances your company towards greater success should be the foundational element of all your exhibits and displays.
Once you have arrived at a conclusion, about what you really need to meet your goals that is, you can then begin thinking about what your big picture is. This is the exciting part of the design process; but it is best to be clear about what your goals and objectives are first before partaking in all the fun the design process has to offer. You must really step into your potential clients shoes and see what they would want from a trade show experience. They should be at the core of all your design decisions. If you do not manage to create a welcoming atmosphere for your clients to step into, then you may not get as great of a return. It will be much easier to meet all of your trade show goals if you keep this in mind. Image and atmosphere are what grab the attention of trade show attendees at an event; because at the end of a day filled with one trade show booths after another, the atmosphere and experience is what will stand out in their minds. If you can make a difference and help people feel changed by their experience with you, then you will succeed in meeting all of your goals as an organization.

How to Choose the Right Event
September 5th, 2008There are thousands of trade shows offered each year, and every event has a little something different to offer then the next. Choosing the trade show even for you is a matter of budget, geographical location, style, date, and many other things. Geography is an important factor to think about because it has a lot to do with the budget you have for the event and also how far your marketing plan can reach across the states. If you have had an advertising campaign that was specifically targeted at your local audience, then the best decision to make would be to hold the event nearby to your home base.
When thinking of where your target customer is and how you are going to reach them, it is helpful to look at it in three different ways: locally, regionally, and nationally. You should set up different goals for each one of these three tiers. As you go on up from local to international, you must remember that it takes more time and money and many times more people to effectively tackle such a large event. When you go internationally the amount of planning triples from a regional event, and due to travel costs and advertising reach your budget will also need to be strongly considered and planned for ahead of time.
Overall, you want to take advice from other event goers, if you know someone who has previously set up a show booth at a particular event, ask for their advice and any insider tips on the correct booth or display boards they could assist you with with before signing up. Make sure that your advertising is adequate and that your preparation allows you to enter in and set up shop with ease and confidence. If you are not at the right event, then you will not be able to sell to your full potential and receive the greatest return. Choosing the right event, means choosing success.

Paying Attention to Details: Plants and Flowers
September 2nd, 2008Event marketing is all about beating out your competitor to make a good first impression and ultimately make a sale. Often times, companies and organizations think that the only way to do this is to create the biggest, greatest trade show display at the event. It is true that colorful catchy banner stands, and beautiful craftsman trade show exhibits grab the attention of trade show attendees and could lead to a new customer and a potential sale; but what everyone is forgetting is that the little things are what also contribute to the overall picture and advertising message.
Many exhibitors would say that plants and flowers and other booth accessories are a waste of space and money. Actually flowers and plants can serve many purposes in your trade show display. They can be placed around a table or in a location at the booth that may look empty or harsh; this will immediately soften the look and polish the overall style of the booth in general. It is true that your huge banner stands or showstopper top of the line display booth will be the first thing to grab the attention of the attendees, but you must also have a backup plan to keep them occupied once inside your booth. If you go the extra mile and pay attention to detail with strategically placed accessories such as a vase of fresh flowers or a classy potted plant, this will convey the message to all attendees that you are taking the show seriously. If you spend that much time on the trade show display booth, then you will probably spend that much time on your customers. If you can get them to make that connection, then in my opinion, the flowers are well worth it.

Trade Show Display Needs Analysis
August 30th, 2008ShopforExhibits is the leading retailer for trade show displays; they offer the latest and greatest in design and quality, at extremely affordable prices. In addition, they also have a great assortment of display rentals. What more could you ask for? At Shopforexhibits you will find an online retailer that cares about the quality of your trade show needs and expectations; visit their site to browse through their extensive collection of modern, reliable, top quality exhibits with all the accessories to match. But before you do this, it would probably be wise to sit down and take a few minutes of time to perform a display needs analysis. This will give you an opportunity to define your needs in order to get the best trade show display for your company.
By doing this work in advance, you will save time and money, and also be completely clear about what your specific needs are, and how finding the perfect trade show exhibit can meet those needs in a cost-effective, time-efficient manner. Ask yourself what your reasons for exhibiting are. Sometimes writing down on paper what your goals are, and what your purpose as an event marketer is, can lead you to understanding exactly what type of trade show display will meet your needs. Two other important questions to ask are: What is your budget? What is your competition? Determining how much money you have and who you are competing against will immediately lead you to discover what your options and limitations in regards to trade show exhibits are. Lastly, determining who your target audience is, and what your marketing plan to sell to this audience is can help guide you to the right trade show display in no time. Always remember to have a plan and act on that plan to help reach your event marketing goals in a flash.

The Importance of Feedback
August 28th, 2008
Trade Shows are a very time consuming and costly investment. If your company is devoting time, money, and energy to such an important cause, then it is imperative that you are receiving a great enough return to make it all worth your while. Deciding whether the benefits outweigh the costs will require organization, time, and research on your part. After each trade show you must document the number of leads received, and from there keep track of how many actual sales happened as a result. Seeing on paper how much progress you have made as a result of trade shows, will allow you to decide for yourself if your company is benefiting as greatly as you would like.
The success of your organization in event marketing can depend on thousands of factors, and knowing what those are, is the key to finding the answers. Missing an objective as small as logo, trade show banner, or color choice, may be the result of some hidden mistake, that, if fixed, can produce much more success in the future. How do you find out where these mistakes exist? Well, gaining some insight from your trade show display team may be the perfect way. Within a few weeks of the particular event, hold a feedback, brainstorming session with your trade show exhibit team. This will allow everyone to take a few steps back and remove themselves from the chaos of the actual event. Everyone will have had time to think about the trade show, and what their perspective on it is. A great research tool, is to make up an evaluation form that your team members can anonymously fill out and be honest about. Often times, you may think you know what needs to be fixed, but the team members that are at the shows day in and day out seeing everything first hand, will be able to offer you invaluable information about what works and what does not. Take these evaluations seriously and listen to the feedback in order to move towards change. Evolving towards success takes time and energy; do not miss out on an opportunity to capitalize on your strengths and improve upon your weaknesses. Your company’s ability to do this will be the true test of time.

Exhibit Space - Does it Matter?
August 27th, 2008The Center for Exhibition Resource reports that “the larger the exhibit, the better the chance of visitors remember it.” This may be ideal, but not all trade show exhibitors have the luxury of unlimited space and size. In many cases, the luxury of space makes the overall cost of the event too expensive, or there is just no additional space available for purchase at the actual event. There is no need to worry, simple attention to detail and décor can make up for a lack of space very easily. By putting innovative and attention-catching activities into practice with your trade show booth, you can create the traffic and attention that an otherwise larger space would demand. In order to make sure that size does not dictate success, you must calculate the ideal amount of space needed for your booth ahead of time, and then factor in any budget restraints that may disable you from getting what you want. You may also want to consider the possibility of display rentals to see what the cost advantages might be.
Remember to aim high, but not to allow your great expectations to muddle your vision for the overall show’s potential. Sometimes if you spend too much time hoping for 100 percent success with each visitor, you may miss an opportunity to capitalize on the most important ones. Realistically according to trade show research, only 8 percent of the trade show attendees will be potential customers interested in what your trade show exhibit has to offer. From this 8 percent, only ½ of those attendees will take time to stop at your trade show booth. It is important to remember these numbers when planning for a trade show. You may not necessarily need all the space that you had originally thought was imperative to your success. Renting a smaller space will cut your costs dramatically and allow for a larger budget that can enhance the space to make up for the size. Having colorful banner stands and a unique trade show display design and theme, will draw attention and make up for the lack of size. Exhibit space is important, but your organizations ability to capitalize on every opportunity and make every trade show sale count is more beneficial in the end than how big your booth is.

Preparing Your Booth Staff for a Trade Show
August 25th, 2008Planning for a trade show can be a very time consuming job; figuring out the details and plan of attack can take weeks, even months alone. Once at the event it is really up to the trade show display staff to make it all worth your while in the end. Remember that you only have a few moments to engage a prospective client; those few moments are crucial and having the right staff to maximize on that time is imperative to your success.
Make sure to assign enough staff to each trade show; this will ensure that you have a sufficient number of staffers to handle all of the people trafficking through your exhibit displays. Having enough staff is important, but what is even more important is making sure that the staff is properly trained and prepared for the show. This will mean that each staff member should have a good idea of his or her role in the trade show overall; and also that they are aware of the ideals of the organization and the attitude that is needed to portray to all potential customers.
If many of your employees are going to be trade show display staff for the first time, it would be a good idea to sit down with them and explain to them the ins and outs of the actual event. You must stress professionalism and good marketing and sales techniques. Try to prepare them for the worst and hope for the best. If all of your staff is on the same wavelength it will help with communication and execution during crunch time at the actual event, when it really counts. Most importantly, remember to let your booth staff have fun. Stress to them, that a positive attitude and passion for the trade is going to make the sale. If your booth staff is having fun, chances are, every attendee that pays your display booth a visit will have a little fun as well.
